PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Welcome to our first digitally formatted all email Newsletter. I haven’t seen the final version, (just an early preview), so I will be viewing it with all of you for the first time upon its release. In addition to a new look, the process of assembly, editing, and distribution will not only become easier and faster, but it will also be accomplished at a greatly reduced cost!

I would like to give a ‘BIG THANK YOU’ to those volunteers who made the new Newsletter a reality, starting with Carey Ransom who along with Kathy Sinacori’s help created and designed the technical aspects of the new system. Thanks also go to Gina Lesley and Gail Zook for the many hours they spent creating and upgrading our new email distribution system. Thanks for a job well done to all of you.

IMPORTANT DREDGING MEETING!
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18th – 6:30 PM
AT THE CLUBHOUSE

City officials have requested we organize an informational meeting for our community regarding Canal Dredging and most particularly the City’s plans for the 62nd Street section of the Canal – basically the section from our tennis courts to Coast Hwy. It is my understanding that in order to proceed, the City must obtain approval from the Coastal Commission and adhere to any of their requirements and restrictions. I do not know how far this process has gone but I am certain it will be a major topic discussed at this meeting.

The meeting will be conducted by our City Councilman, Tony Petros, who will be accompanied by our City Manager Dave Kiff. Also in attendance will be the City’s Public Works Director Dave Webb.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of attending, especially for our members on the Canal side of 62nd Street!

SANITATION DISTRICT PROJECT UPDATE
Many of you are aware that this construction project was for the purpose of adding and replacing large underground transmission pipes that run along the sides and under the Santa Ana River. The project at various times interrupts use of the recreational trails on both sides of the river. Recently the contractors have started boring through large sections of previously poured concrete which has created both delays and a much higher level of noise and ground vibrations for our community. I for one will be very pleased when this unpleasant phase of the project is completed. I have just been notified that, due in part to these unexpected delays, they will begin working 7 days a week for about three weeks starting on Thursday, September 12th. The entire project is scheduled to be completed sometime in January 2014. Let’s hope so!

Best Regards to All,
Howard Rich, HOA President
