PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Well, ready or not the Holiday Season is upon us. The Halloween Party was a great success and a fun way to kick-start the Season. There will be more information to follow in this newsletter about upcoming events, so be sure to mark your calendars and join us!

ORANGE COUNTY SANITATION DISTRICT (OCSD) PROJECT
Some community members have experienced issues with the ongoing construction project along both banks of the Santa Ana River. Problems include noisy trucks in the early morning hours across from 61st and 62nd Street. Loud drilling and earth vibrations along with bright lights directed towards our community, sometimes as late as 9pm, are another problem. Communication of these issues with the OCSD project manager resulted in a very swift response and immediate changes that have greatly improved the situation. Work hours are now restricted from 7am to 7pm weekdays and 8am to 7pm on weekends, with all after-dark lighting directed towards the Sanitation Facility. This important project in part will stabilize the embankments and help insure our community’s safety during the potential flood season, so work must be completed before the wet season begins. Thus the need for the 12-hour days. All major construction should be completed by late December. This project has a way to go, but it is all in our best interests.

WELCOME TO THE NEW LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE
One month ago Board Member Gary Belt volunteered to head this new committee. Their mission is to strictly focus on our landscaping. This included the Clubhouse planters both inside and outside the gate, the islands on Canal Circle, and the water access street ends at 62nd and Canal Street at Canal Circle. Gary reached out in a recent email blast for volunteers to work on the committee and I’m happy to say that we now have four new committee members. They include Sharon Paxson, Eli Nikitin, Madelynn Forgey, and Ken Barrett. I attended the committee’s first meeting and the eagerness to help along with their enthusiasm was amazing. I can’t wait to see what kind of changes will come out of this group!

A Happy Halloween Was Had By All

Halloween Coordinator Jill Hunt and her volunteer team did an outstanding job on this year’s celebration. Big thanks to this group and their ability to make the pre-trick or treating hours fly by with fun! Please check out the bottom of this Bulletin for pictures that capture all the spooky neighborhood magic!

Newport Shores Holiday Party Saturday, Dec 7th from 5-7 PM

Join your neighbors and friends at the Clubhouse as it’s transformed into Santa’s Candy Shop! Enjoy arts & crafts for the kids, writing letters to Santa, and also a meet and greet with Santa in person! A light dinner (chili, macaroni & cheese and treats) generously donated by the food committee will be served; wine and soft drinks available for sale. Bring a new unwrapped toy for our toy drive.

This is a wonderful way to start the Holiday Season in our community and a great photo opportunity for those holiday cards.

We need Elves! Use your elvish skills for decoration, construction, set up, food servers, Santa assistants, bar elves, elves to help with arts & crafts and letter writing. Also clean up elves needed. Call Yvonne at 949-554-3404 or [email protected] to volunteer. Santa is watching.

Sunday Home Tour and Christmas Boutique

On Sunday, December 8th, from 2pm to 5pm we will again have some very special homes on display. It’s always fun to visit with friends and neighbors at this time, and you’ll be doing a very good deed at the simultaneously. This fundraiser benefits our Service men and women by helping provide items for our overseas troops. This is an adult event and tickets are $15 if purchased prior to Friday, December 6th. The day of the event, December 8th, tickets can be purchased for $20 at the Clubhouse where a Christmas Boutique will be in full swing. Do some fun holiday shopping with just a mere stroll down the street.

Pre-ordered Home Tour tickets can be purchased by dropping off your check to Barbara Thibault at 358 62nd Street by Friday, December 6th. Questions about the Boutique should be directed to Heather at 548-7703. Home Tour inquiries should go to Kennie Jo at 642-4917. Big surprise in March for all our outstanding volunteers so let this be the season you join the team!

SHORES NEWS BRIEFS

DIGITAL ADVERTISING IN THE SHORES BULLETIN – Beginning in 2014, we will have digital advertising available in this Bulletin and on our website. Each advertiser will be charged a flat rate of $250 for a year’s inclusion and must provide their own digital advertisement. Each ad should be a 150 pixel x 150 pixel square. If you’d like to become part of our advertising team, contact Newport Shores Bulletin Editor Kathy Sinacori at [email protected].

VOLUNTEER NEEDED TO ASSEMBLE PROFESSIONAL SERVICES LIST – Anyone remember when our neighborhood had a list of local Home Care Professionals recommended by residents? Our current list is hopelessly outdated. If you’d like to tackle this project and compile a fresh reference list, please contact Newport Shores Bulletin Editor Kathy Sinacori at [email protected].

NEWPORT SHORES BOOK CLUB – Our local book club meets the second Monday of every month at 6:30pm. Bring your favorite refreshment and join us! For a list of this year’s selections, check out the link below. Please email [email protected] for more information. While we usually meet in the Community Clubhouse, we do occasionally visit the homes of our members. Get reading!

VOLLEYBALL AT THE CLUBHOUSE – Saturday mornings at the Clubhouse from 7am to 9am is the place to catch a quick game of sand volleyball. Players from age 14 to 99 want you to bring your best game. Great exercise!

YOUR COMMUNITY BULLETIN BOARD – Thanks to everyone who has contributed pictures for the Clubhouse bulletin board. Please keep emailing any photos of happenings in the Shores or people in the Shores to [email protected].

LOST DOGS FOUND – The next time you spot a dog wandering the neighborhood or if your dog manages a mini-escape of its own, please contact resident Gina Lesley at [email protected]. Gina has had success connecting lost pets with their owners. By sending all information to one central hub, we stand a greater chance at reuniting our Shores residents (both human and canine) as quickly as possible.

LOST CLUBHOUSE KEYS – If you happen to find a lost Clubhouse key, please place it in the Clubhouse mailbox. It will be identified and returned to its rightful owner. If you lose our Clubhouse key, please contact our HOA Management Company AMMCOR at (949) 661-7767, Ext. 223.
