PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
WARNING – IT’S COYOTE SEASON
Just a reminder that mid-December through early April is mating season for our local coyote’s. While raising pups, the adults just naturally become much more aggressive in their search for food. To avoid problems be especially careful when walking dogs in the early mornings or near the hours of dusk. Always keep pets on a short leash and avoid brush areas along the water. Try to keep pet food indoors and not on your patio, and of course keep pets in at night.
NEW TRASH RECEPTACLE ORDER REMINDER
I’m sure you have all received the notices sent out by the City and CR&R, our new trash collection company. Just in case you haven’t already ordered and you want to specify the size and number of receptacles that will be delivered to you (free of charge) you only have a few days left to do that. All orders must be received by CR&R no later than Monday January 20th.
To order, you can go on line to www.crrwasteservices.com/cartorder or phone customer service at 1-877-728-0446. Either way, make sure you have the code reference # that appears above your name on the envelope mailed to you by CR&R. This number is also your water billing # that you receive from the city.
HAVE YOU SEEN OUR NEW BBQ’S ?
We replaced the two old charcoal BBQ’s with two new stainless steel natural gas BBQ’s. Board member Gary Belt spearheaded the project that included installation of the gas lines; selection and purchase of the new units; saw cutting the concrete counter top to accommodate the new units; and final installation. Gary did a great job and completed the project quickly and quite a bit under the projected budget! Thanks Gary. If you haven’t seen them, you should go down and check them out.

ONE LAST LOOK BACK AT 2013
2013 was a banner year in the Newport Shores! Our holiday events were very well attended with lot of volunteers giving of their time and energy. The Tree Lighting and Santa Visit brought out lots of community members into a veritable winter wonderland, California style. Big thanks to all who decorated their homes in such grand style, not to mention Event Coordinator Yvonne Verburgt and her group of Elves.
In addition, the Home Tour raised $1500 for the Veterans Christmas Care Packages through the Legion Program. We also added a new event – the Newport Shores Boutique of handmade items for sale. It was a good opportunity to get unique gifts for friends and family. Thanks go to Event Coordinator Heather McCormick, in addition to the lovely residents who opened up their homes for our annual tour – Duncan and Madelyn Forgey, Allison Eastman and Ryan, Mark and Susie Richter, and Mark and Erika Fiore. These very generous families have amazing homes that were decorated beautifully for Christmas. They also welcomed us with delicious refreshments to an afternoon of good cheer. We are so lucky to live in this special community! Thanks to all and looking forward to seeing you in 2014. – Kennie Jo Rizzo, HOA Vice President

DIGITAL ADVERTISING IN THE SHORES BULLETIN – Digital advertising is now available in this Bulletin and on our website. Each advertiser will be charged a flat rate of $250 for inclusion in six editions (we have a guaranteed publish date of once every two months) and must provide their own digital advertisement. Each ad should be a 150 pixel x 150 pixel square. If you’d like to become part of our advertising team, contact Newport Shores Bulletin Editor Kathy Sinacori at [email protected].
JR. GUARD TRAINING PROGRAM – The Newport Shores will host a Jr. Guard Training Program this winter, as they have done in years past. The program will begin on February 10th and run through March 27th. From 3:30 to 5:00pm Monday thru Thursday during this stretch of dates, the pool will only be available to those enrolled in the program during that time. For more details and to sign up for the Jr. Guard Training Program, please contact the Swim Office at (949) 548-5668.
DO NOT SOLICIT REGISTRY – If you signed up last year to be part of Newport Beach’s Do Not Solicit registry, it’s time to re-register. Each calendar year the City will be legally forced to start from scratch and re-enroll all interested residents. All you need to do is post a “No Solicitors” sign near the front door of your property and log on to this webpage to have your property address listed as one that solicitors are forbidden from approaching. The more Shores residents who make this effort, the safer from annoyance and possible criminal activity we all become.
NEIGHBORHOOD GARAGE SALE – Spring Cleaning is right around the corner and the Newport Shores Neighborhood needs a leader to guide us in the right direction. If you’d like to head up a Neighborhood Garage Sale, please contact Event Chairperson Kennie Jo Rizzo at (949) 466-7604.
NEWPORT SHORES BOOK CLUB – Our local book club meets the second Monday of every month at 7pm in the Community Clubhouse. Bring your favorite refreshment and just show up. Please email Jacqui Larkin at [email protected] for more information.
